It's Out

The tooth fairy visited the Wright household...finally.

This past school year a classmate of the older boys' lost a tooth. This made one of my boys really want to lose a tooth. On any given day in the last two months Owen would tell anybody who would listen that he had anywhere between 1 to 8 loose teeth in his mouth.

He had zero loose teeth.

That was until we realized that a little over a week ago Owen really did have a loose tooth. This excited everyone in the house.

The loose tooth still in with the new one already poking through.

Then right before our eyes, the tide changed. Owen became terrified of losing his tooth. He went on a 24 hour fast in fear that he would lose the tooth when he ate. Owen even refused cake and ice cream at a birthday party. The following day was the first day of Bible school (Owen was excited to go.) Owen ate his first meal which was cold cereal. He seemed happy and satisfied to finally have food in his stomach again.

Before I knew it the kid was puking his guts out in the bathroom. Three times over. Owen was not sick in an illness kind of way. He had gotten himself so worked up that he might lose the tooth at Bible school that he puked. Darn that kid! (He did not go to Bible school that day.)
Owen was able to gather himself together as the week progressed.

This past Monday out of the blue Owen decided it was time to lose the tooth. He requested to have the tooth pulled with the magic tooth fairy string. A very nervous Owen and Mommy got the string attached to the tooth and 1...2...3...

It was out! Thank you magic tooth fairy string. Owen survived his first loose tooth.

Sunglasses

This week the kids have been going to Bible school. On Monday the craft for the day was to "decorate" sunglasses. All the kids were given a pair of sunglasses. Attached to the sunglasses is a plastic string that the kids beaded. The teachers attached the string to the sunglasses and bam you've got a beautiful pair of sunglasses.

When picking Carson up from his classroom he's got his sunglasses in hand. Carson proudly turns to me and says he made them just for me. He's so thoughtful. I of course went on and on about how beautiful they were and how nice it was that he was giving his prized craft to me. We get to the van and I put the sunglasses in the front seat. While driving home Carson asks where my new sunglasses are. I assure him they are safe in the front with me sitting on the passenger's seat.

Today when dropping the kids off at Bible school we all pile out of the van and begin to walk into the church. Carson says to me "Mom! Where are your sunglasses?" I told him they were safe in the van. He then insists I wear them. "It's sunny out, Mom." I get the sunglasses out of the van and hang them around my neck with the beautiful grandma type beaded string still securely attached. Carson insists I put them on because as he stated several times, it's sunny out. I inform Carson that they are a little small. He tells me, "That's okay. I don't mind."

I proudly walked into the church with my sunglasses on. I take advantage of the sting and let them hang around my neck when we get in the church.

I'm pretty sure I was the envy of all the other parents this morning. I could tell by the looks they gave me.

Race Day

On Saturday, June 04 my kids and I ran road races. Wichita has their yearly summer festival called RiverFest. Along with the festival comes the River Run races. There's 10 K, two mile, and tot trot races. My five year old son Carson told me months ago that he wanted to run the two mile with me. He's never ran more than the length of our back yard at one time.

A month before the race the boys got new running shoes. I couldn't live with myself knowing Carson might run two miles in Star Wars shoes that he got last summer. This pumped the boys up for their races. Stella was okay with her current pink flower shoes for her race.

About two weeks before race day Carson started getting cold feet. No way was I letting him out of this race now. I tried talking him out of it several times earlier, but he was sure he wanted to run the race. So what does every good mother do? I hauled all the kids to the bank to register for the races to make it official. Along with registration came t shirts. Carson was back on board for running the race knowing he'd be getting a new t shirt.

Owen by the cannon.

Our race went beautifully. Carson and I lined up among the other 2300 plus runners, the cannon shot, and we were off. Daddy and the other kids stood on the sidewalk cheering us on. At the one mile mark I called daddy to tell him to hurry to the finish line to cheer us on.

I was so proud of Carson. We ran the two mile race in 22 minutes and 22 seconds. He officially placed 826 of 2349 runners. Not bad for a five year old (in his mother's opinion). We did not stop once to walk. I couldn't believe it. Carson was so cute when he was running. He talked the whole time to me while snapping his fingers. He finished second of all the five year olds. Carson loved passing all the adults and older kids, but I think other than getting a medal his favorite part was getting the complimentary Hydrate drink from a volunteer when we crossed the finish line. Unfortunately, we were too fast and Daddy and company didn't get to see us finish the race.

Carson went on to run the Tot Trot with Owen (a 50 yard race). Both boys did fantastic in it. Ike rocked his race as well. If you ask him how he did, he'll tell you he beat all the girls. I'm not sure where that comes from. Stella on the other hand started off strong, then realized she was scared. Turned around and ran back to me at the start line in tears. We walked and finished the race together all while she was screaming her head off. She protested getting a medal at the end of the race, but has been wearing it since we got home and is even wanting to wear it when she sleeps. When you ask her how she did she says she got last place (which is true) and "I did cry." She says all that with a smile on her face. What a little stinker.
